The City of New Haven Department of Transportation, Traffic, & Parking has initiated a planning study of Orchard Street, funded by the South Central Regional Council of Governments (SCRCOG) to evaluate traffic safety improvements along the corridor between Munson Street and Davenport Avenue.
Initiated in June 2024, the study builds upon the recommendations of the Safe Routes for All (SRFA) Plan and includes a needs and deficiencies assessment including a review of crashes to identify priority locations for traffic safety interventions, such as pedestrian and signal upgrades, traffic calming improvements including curb-extensions, raised crosswalks and raised intersections.
As part of the scope, the study team hosted a public workshop on January 7, 2025 to gather input on potential concepts and improvements. Give your feedback on the draft concept plans, and on other locations along the corridor you think are in need of improvements, here: https://bit.ly/orchardstsurvey. As a follow-up to the workshop, the project team will deliver a virtual, public presentation integrating all public feedback on Wednesday, January 29th at 6pm. Save this link to join the meeting when it's time: https://bit.ly/orchardstvirtual. A final report will then be created with all the study's recommendations. These recommendations will form the basis for potential future interim- and long-term implementation projects, subject to funding for design and construction.
