The City of New Haven highly values our elderly population and is 100% committed to provide quality-of-life support services for its aging population which focuses on enhancing an individual’s overall well-being and satisfaction with their life, encompassing physical, mental, and social dimensions.
The Department of Elderly Services mission is to empower New Haven residents aged 55 and older to live independently with dignity, stay connected to their community, maintain health and wellness, and access eligible resources through advocacy and support. We operate three senior centers listed below.
Seniors are invited to participate in four very special events each year. In May, the Senior Volunteer of the Year luncheon is held. This event honors those that volunteer their time to help our seniors. In August, seniors attend Connecticut Senior Day at Holiday Hill. In September, seniors attend Connecticut Day at the Big E in Springfield, MA, and apple-picking is trips are held in October.
For more information about services provided by our department, the senior centers, or about opportunities to volunteer, please feel free to contact the senior center of your choice.
For high-school aged volunteers, please email ccave@newhavenct.gov for information.
