The deadline to file a renewal or initial application for property tax exemption is Monday, November 3, 2025. All organizations that were previously granted a property tax exemption must reapply regardless of when they last applied.

The Tax-Exempt Application must be completed correctly and in detail. Failure to complete the Tax-Exempt Application correctly or in a timely manner will result in the loss or denial of Exempt Property Status.  

If the organization is claiming an exemption on property that is used as housing, the form titled ‘Tax Exempt Application – Housing’ must be submitted.

Pursuant to Connecticut General Statute Section 12-87a, the Assessor may grant an extension of up to sixty days. Under no circumstances can an extension be granted past Friday, January 2, 2026. If an extension is granted, a late-filing fee of thirty-five dollars must be paid at the time of filing. To request an extension, please email mcourtney@newhavenct.gov.
