Bulk Trash

Bulk Trash appointments must be scheduled in person during the hours of 7:00 am-4:00 pm, Monday thru Friday, at the Department of Public Works, 34 Middletown Avenue. The service is available to New Haven Residents only. Proof of residency is required at time of scheduling. Picture IDs such as; driver's license, city resident or state card must have your current New Haven address on it. Appointments are scheduled by neighborhoods.

The first bulk appointment is free if you are the homeowner of a house with one to three units.  If not the first appointment is $50.00. All residents must pay $50.00 for the second bulk appointment in the same calendar year. All checks must be made payable to Treasurer City of New Haven. 

Please note: At different times throughout the year we may have to suspend scheduling Bulk Trash Appointments. Please call (203) 946-7700 to ensure that we are scheduling appointments before you come to our office at 34 Middletown Avenue to book one. 

When scheduling the appointment, residents will receive information about Bulk Trash guidelines (download flyer). Failure to follow the guidelines will result in a fine.

Coupons, allowing New Haven Residents to utilize the Transfer Station’s drop off services for free, are also available at the DPW office. Whether residents schedule a Bulk Appointment or not, they can acquire 4 yard waste coupons (trees, branches, leaves only) and 4 residential waste coupons (tires, metal, electronics) valid for one year.  

Coupons are redeemable at the Transfer Station where an attendant is on duty to collect them from Monday – Saturday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.
