City of New Haven to Close Lighthouse Point Park Due to Isaias Damage

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Today the City of New Haven announced the closure of Lighthouse Point Park due to the widespread damage from Tropical Storm Isaias. There is currently no power at the park. As a result, the lighthouse is without power, and there are no working bathrooms because there is no power for the sewage injection pumps. Tree damage is widespread, and for the safety of residents and visitors, the park will remain closed until further notice.

City of New Haven to Activate Cooling Centers this Weekend

July 17, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Due to elevated temperatures, including an excessive humidity forecast throughout the City and region for the coming days, the City of New Haven will be activating cooling centers for the public to provide relief from expected heat and humidity. High temperatures and humidity will begin Saturday and continue until Wednesday. A cooling center will be open for residents to stay out of the heat and keep cool, located at the Kennedy Hall of Records, 200 Orange Street on the ground floor. This facility will be open Sunday through Tuesday from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

May 17, 2018 - MAYOR HARP, PARKS ‘N’ REC OFFICIALS SAY LIGHTHOUSE POINT PARK WILL OPEN SATURDAY

New Haven – Mayor Toni N. Harp and officials of the city’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Trees said today Lighthouse Point Park will open Saturday morning and vehicle parking permits will be available there beginning that day. Officials said the park will be open weekends only – and Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day – for the remainder of the New Haven Public Schools school-year calendar.

November 3, 2017 - CITY’S PARKS ‘N’ REC DEPARTMENT, YALE’S URI, AND FRIENDS OF EAST ROCK PARK TO BUILD NEW TRAIL SATURDAY ALONG RICE FIELD

New Haven – After securing permission and guidance from the city’s Department of Parks, Recreation, and Trees, with assistance and advice from the Yale School of Forestry’s Urban Resources Initiative, Friends of East Rock Park will congregate Saturday morning to construct ‘Betty’s Way’ – a new trail near English Drive meant to improve access to East Rock Park from the city’s Cedar Hill neighborhood.
