This is responsible, professional work providing and serving both young and school age children (up to 10 years old) in a community or school-based primary health care setting. The practitioner will be employed by and administratively responsible to the Health Department. Work includes: children’s examinations and health assessment screenings; providing preliminary diagnoses, treatments, and/or referrals per approved medical protocols; administering immunizations; consulting school staff regarding current health issues; counseling children and families regarding health topics such as nutrition, weight management, blood diseases and current health issues.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS include:
Graduation from an accredited program of nursing with pediatric nurse practitioner preparation in a formal continuing education program with a Masters’ or Doctorate Degree in nursing. Completion of an OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner training program and internship accepted by NAACOG,or certified Nurse Practitioner in a related field preferred. Considerable knowledge of standards of care and service delivery offered in a community or school-based clinic setting. Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws governing medical nursing practice in an SBC. Considerable knowledge of planning, implementing, and evaluating SBC activities. Ability to communicate in English / Spanish desirable.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health; At least two years’ experience as a licensed APRN.

SALARY: $65,580 - $103,389 annualized
LOCAL 3144, Range 10
This position is included in a collective bargaining agreement with Local 3144, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
