The mission of the City of New Haven Prison Reentry Department is to reduce recidivism by collaborating with community partners, state agencies, and other reentry stakeholders. We seek to create a citywide, strategic, and systematic delivery of resources that leads to reduced recidivism through increased employment and housing opportunities, access to continued education and the long-term self-sufficiency of returning residents.
The Reentry Department oversees the Office of Project Fresh Start , which is a resource center where staff assess individual’s needs to provide referrals to relevant service providers in the community. Additional service of the Department includes capacity building through grant making, and technical assistance for reentry service providers on a case by case basis.
We envision a city where returning residents have real and tangible opportunities to reintegrate in their communities. Our commitment is to persistently remove barriers that lead to reoffending and support the implementation of evidence-based practices, while ensuring the formerly incarcerated have a strong voice to advise the planning, implementation and delivery of transitional services.
