**Heat Advisory for our area beginning today**

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for our area beginning today, Monday at noon. The Heat Advisory is expected to end by late Wednesday night unless extended. The heat index will peak in the mid 90’s during Monday through Wednesday.

City splash pads are open for use and it is highly recommended to follow heat preparedness guidelines and safety tips listed below. Find air conditioning, avoid strenuous activities, wear light clothing, check on family members and neighbors, drink plenty of fluids, watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and never leave people or pets in a closed car are some easy safety tips to remember.

Call 911 for any heat-related emergency. Heatwaves can produce many heat-related health issues, and this can happen quickly to those with underlying medical conditions, elderly, children and pets too! City of New Haven 2021 Rent Rebate application

The City of New Haven will begin the State of Connecticut Rent Rebate application process on May 16, 2021.

To qualify for the Renter’s rebate program you must be at least 65 years of age, or between the ages of 18 and 64 and designated disabled as defined by the Social Security Administration or be at least 50 years old and a surviving spouse of a renter who at the time of his or her death met the qualifications for the rent rebate.

All applicants must currently reside in Connecticut and have resided in Connecticut for any one-year period prior to filing an application for a rebate.

City of New Haven to Activate Cooling Centers this Weekend

July 17, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Due to elevated temperatures, including an excessive humidity forecast throughout the City and region for the coming days, the City of New Haven will be activating cooling centers for the public to provide relief from expected heat and humidity. High temperatures and humidity will begin Saturday and continue until Wednesday. A cooling center will be open for residents to stay out of the heat and keep cool, located at the Kennedy Hall of Records, 200 Orange Street on the ground floor. This facility will be open Sunday through Tuesday from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

MOSQUITO REPELLANT AVAILABLE AT SENIOR CENTERS

New Haven – Mayor Toni N. Harp said today several city departments are involved in this year’s plan to help protect city residents from the mosquito-borne West Nile Virus. Mayor Harp said the city’s late-summer mosquito mitigation efforts coincide with the the time West Nile Virus-infected mosquitoes are said to be most active.
