Mayor Elicker Mourns Loss of New Haven Police Officer

PRESS RELEASE - September 17, 2021

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Following today’s tragic death of New Haven Police Officer Joshua Castellano, Mayor Justin Elicker issued the following statement.

“My thoughts and condolences are with the family of Officer Castellano as well as his friends and colleagues at the New Haven Police Department,” Said Mayor Justin Elicker. “Officer Castellano served our community for seven years. We’re thankful for Officer Castellano’s service; he will be greatly missed.”

New Haven’s Strategy to Combat Gun Violence

Gun Violence is on the rise:

Gun violence is on the rise in America – 2020 was one of the deadliest years in recent memory with more than 19,000 gun-related deaths (excluding suicides). That’s more than 50 per day. And 2021 is shaping up to be another record-setting year, with more than 14,000 gun deaths by the beginning of September.

Earlier this year, President Joe Biden identified gun violence as a major threat to public safety. The President outlined his national strategy to combat the trend of increasing gun violence.
